Downtown Burncastle
Downtown Burncastle is the major population center for the wider town of Burncastle. The main form of travel throughout the town is the wide main highway that travels directly through the town's center, from which a number of smaller byways descend, and from which a myriad of interconnected residential roads are derived from. The few apartment complexes in Burncastle are found in this area, but a majority of housing comes in the form small houses along the many roads. Other times, it's often the case that those who own stores either live on the second or third floors of the buildings they own, or rent those spaces out to tenants.
Commercial activity in Burncastle is comparatively poor performing, but the large wealthy sub-population in the town means that specialty shops are very popular. Obviously, convenience stores and similar shops make up the bulk of all stores, but Burncastle does have an ice cream parlor, a music shop, a dance studio, and a store for (legal) vices. It is rumored that there is a prolific drug trade in Burncastle, but in this day and age, many towns are subject to this, especially if they have a notably large population below the poverty line--which Burncastle does.
Just over three decades ago, a huge project was undertaken to divert the traffic coming through, especially from the shipping center, onto a new bridge highway that went over the main road (which was previously the highway itself). A decade later, or 20 years ago, this project was completed, and now Burncastle has the unusual honor of having a massively busy highway bridge that runs directly over most of the town. It doesn't run perfectly colinear with the main road--it runs askew to it, diagonally over it from the southeastern shipping area towards the northwest. Either way, the areas beneath the bridge have an ominous presence to them, and is often frequented by less-than-desirable individuals who live in shanty houses.
