The southern edge of Burncastle is home to a number of marshy wetlands, referred to as the Burncastle Swamps. The Swamps are somewhat unusual for their high salt content, and depending on who you ask, their absurdly high heavy metal contents. The Burncastle Industrial Park borders it, and there really is not any conceivable way that the run-off from the numerous factories leeched into the water. Some people insist on fishing or even swimming in the swamp waters, especially given how buoyant a person becomes when in such salty water, but this cannot possibly be healthy.

The water comes from the Semyot River which runs through the heart of Burncastle. A handful of the wealthier townspeople had clearings cut nearby, in the woods to the west of the swamps, but most of the housing in the area is situated in the hills around the swamps and the industrial park and--frankly speaking--is lower-income housing. Of course, this is not to speak ill of anyone.

Roadways through the swamps are few and far between, and either skirt around the swamps or cut through it by means of bridges created by displacing dirt and building roads on top of them, or by more traditional concrete overpass-style bridges. The Industrial Park is to the west; the Shipping Center is to the east.
