It's been mentioned before that, if you're in attendance at Center Path Institute then there's an overwhelming likelihood that you'll be housed in the East Building; in that same breath, it's also mentioned that there's a weight restriction. This is where the North Building comes in--it's designed for hybrids. What this actually means is that it can structurally support a LOT more weight, and that it also has much bigger doorways and way higher ceilings.

Otherwise, it's a surprisingly non-descript residential building. It's nowhere near as fancy or as extravagant as the East Building, probably on account of it not being a money maker for CPI, but it's livable. Also, just because it's for hybrids doesn't mean that all hybrids have to live in it, or that ordinary people can't live in it. There's some intermingling going on. Mallory, for instance, doesn't live there--I think she lives in the South Building, or even off campus, but given her nature it wouldn't surprise me if she lives in the access tunnels underground, or has a fort inside of the industrial area.
