I'm pretty sure the Semyot were an indigenous people or tribe or something that lived around Burncastle a long time ago, like, around when the area first got settled. The legend goes that they were almost all hybrids, and the kind of hybrids that were REALLY different looking than your average individual, kind of like how Mallory looks. It's hard to prove that this is true, because I don't own a genetics laboratory and I also cannot travel back in time. I'm practicing, okay?

Some of the bigger families around Burncastle, like the Calvarys, are said to be descended from the Semyot pretty much directly. Maybe not all of them, since these family names ARE everywhere, but you get the point. Oh, also, it's not like these families operate as like, evil crime mafia groups. It's just that they all have got the same last name. A lot of them don't even talk to each other. At least, that's kinda the impression I get from the Calvarys that I do know.
