Factory District
Burncastle's pride and joy is its supermassive factory district that sits in the southwest corner of the town and does nothing. The entire complex, which is easily, like, a dozen buildings or more, was utterly abandoned over 20 years ago and never used again. Despite the fact that this would be a very good place to get killed, not one piece of it has been demolished or cordoned off or anything. I have no idea why. I'm not a lawyer.
If you want to get in, you have three options. You can either trudge in through the undeveloped forest and clear the retaining wall, figure out how to get across the rotting metal bridge, or hope that the rumors are true and that there are man-sized drainage pipes that go straight from the swamps to the factory plaza. Once you're there, it's not that bad at all, but it's definitely a friggin' puzzle to get to the damn thing. Usually, there's a makeshift bridge built on top of the bones of the original metal bridge to the plaza, but keep in mind that the new bridges are built from whatever is laying around by people who are usually punk teenagers with no engineering experience.
The factories are weirdly empty. They probably got picked clean of anything valuable that wasn't nailed to the floor, or too heavy to move. Most of the time, each factory has the exact same floor plan consisting of several stories of broad, wallless rooms. There's a few smallert buildings, though, that have way more complex and office-like layouts. Those ones are cool as hell. You can make a little hidey hole inside of them. Mallory likes to explore this place a lot, and like, of course she does. She says she sees Penny around rarely too, but super rarely. She can't get out too much nowadays.
